ILTF welcomes summer interns Broderick Dressen, Avery Armstrong and Adam Flood
June-2008Summer interns Broderick Dressen, Avery Armstrong and Adam Flood

Broderick is a senior at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. He is majoring in international relations, with a focus on the effects of globalization on nationalism and individual identity. Broderick is an Inupiat Eskimo, and grew up in Red Wing, Minnesota, where his father works with the Prairie Island Mdewakanton Dakota Sioux community. Broderick’s interest in Indian lands includes research and writing he is doing about the effects of nuclear radiation on his people, the Inupiat Eskimos.  At ILTF, Broderick is researching a variety of topics and issues for the program, communications and development areas.

Avery is pursuing a dual master’s degree in city and regional planning and landscape architecture at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and holds a bachelor of fine arts degree from Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, Washington. She grew up in Seattle, and is a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. A former Morris K.Udall Native American Congressional Intern, Avery has experience and interest in mediation and alternative dispute resolution. At ILTF, she is conducting research and working on the model land office initiative with the Bad River, Umatilla and Pine Ridge tribal land offices.

Adam is a third year law student at Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota, and has an interest in Indian law. A native of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, Adam earned a bachelor’s degree from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. He has experience as a high school teacher and financial planner. As a law student, Adam is on the board of editors for the Hamline Law Review and participated in the National Native American Law Students Association Moot Court Competition. Adam’s internship focuses on researching legal mechanisms for acquiring land from federal, state and private entities.
